I joined a Swedish industrial group last year to lead reward for South America, about 1,750 employees in Brazil. Global is rolling out a catalogue of 380 jobs with standard titles. In Brazil each employee's registration also carries an occupation code from the national classification, and titles and duties have a bearing on union category and on equal-pay comparisons between people doing the same function.
When I mapped our 210 local titles to the global catalogue, around 40 global jobs each absorbed several local titles whose occupation codes differ. Our labour lawyers are uneasy about collapsing them without reviewing each one.
For those who have done a catalogue rollout in Brazil, how did you sequence it, and how long did the review take?
