I run benefits for a hospital group in the US Midwest, about 7,800 employees across five sites. For years our open enrolment completion among clinical staff on nights and weekends lagged everyone else by 20 points, and each year around 600 people defaulted into last year's elections without looking.
This year we stopped relying on email and the portal. We put a benefits person physically on each site for two night shifts and one weekend, with tablets, between 10pm and 6am. We also sent a text message with a personal link rather than a login page.
Active completion among night staff went from 52% to 86%. The cost was mostly overtime for my own team. Sharing because it was unglamorous and it worked.
