A decade running warehouses, now the person behind the pay spreadsheets

After ten years in distribution operations, the last four as a site manager, I moved into a reward analyst role at the same grocery retailer in Queensland in July. We have about 14,000 team members, most of them covered by enterprise agreements.

I took the job because I had spent years on the receiving end of pay decisions I could not explain to my team, and I wanted to see how they were made. The answer so far is: more carefully than I assumed, and with worse data.

I am quick with rosters and labour cost but new to market data and job matching. Keen to learn, and happy to answer anything about how pay lands on a warehouse floor.
